Wouldn’t it be great to have a sustainable tourism program in your community that recognizes a network of green-certified business?
- Build your own green tourism program based on the Virginia Green program participants.
- Take credit for them and link them with other sustainability efforts.
- Consider building a webpage to help visitors reduce their environmental footprint in your community by helping them find and support those businesses.
- There are most likely several Virginia Green Travel partners in your community, because they are in all regions of the Commonwealth.
- Consider becoming a Virginia Green Travel Chapter
- Chapters work with the VGTA to develop a simple plan for:

- Commit to Green Festivals and Events. Commitments to recycling and waste reduction and other environmental commitments are important these days and can make a very good or a very negative impact to visitor experience.
- Certified Virginia Green Travel Events! The Virginia Green certification includes an application for green festivals & events and it’s a great teaching tool for event planners.
- The Virginia Green Sustainable Events Guide provides lots of great ideas for how to make your festival or event as green as possible!
- Green Meetings and Conferences. Conference & Convention Centers that are Virginia Green certified meet the green meeting requirement for RFP’s from government organizations and corporate entities that must have green meetings.
- Green Stories! Features and stories about green experiences will increase tourism business in your community. Write a feature about staying at a green-certified hotel, visiting a brewery, a museum, and restaurant….all Virginia Green certified!
